A Month of Transformation-the ICAR-DOGR Special Campaign 5.0 program
The ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research (DOGR), Pune, successfully conducted Special Campaign 5.0 from 2nd to 31st Oct, 2025 for a month by initiative program focusing cleanliness in the institute, rural outreach, waste management, administrative reforms and awareness building. The campaign was executed as per structured calendar, ensuring maximum participation and visible outcomes. Dr. Amar Jeet Gupta, Principal Scientist (Hort.)/Nodal Officer (SBA) coordinated the function and distributed certificates for participants in various competitions conducted under the Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign on 2nd Oct 2025 and inspired the celebrations of Swachh Bharat Diwas with a ceremony acknowledging contributors to earlier Swachhata Hi Seva competition events. As a part of the program, the scientific, technical and researchers committed themselves to a month-long schedule of daily cleanliness and improvement activities with enthusiasm. The first week witnessed daily cleaning and beautification of various areas of the institute including open seating areas, water storage structures, high-footfall locations and farm sheds. Staff and students actively contributed to clean campus maintenance. A major external intervention took place at the APMC market yard, Gultekadi where ICAR-DOGR conducted a cleanliness campaign to improve sanitation in the busy commercial zone. In the second week, the campaign expanded into rural settings. Cleanliness and awareness programs were held in Shiroli and Chandoli villages involving villagers, panchayat members and children. Hygiene education and waste management awareness formed the core of these initiatives. Under the TSP, ICAR-DOGR conducted a large outreach activity in Ambegaon Taluka, promoting sanitation practices among tribal communities and strengthening their understanding of Swachhata Hi Seva. The third week focused on administrative restructuring and infrastructure cleaning. Record management activities included weeding out outdated files and organizing documents to improve efficiency. Simultaneously, the institute roads, crate storage facilities, farm plots and internal pathways were cleaned. An educational outreach program in Shiroli village provided children with stationery and lessons on hygiene, ensuring continuity in community engagement. The final week emphasized cleaning of the Director’s residence, shade-net facility, water treatment tanks, cold storage units, canteen premises, lawn areas and rooftop water tank zones. In alignment with Vigilance Awareness Week, an extempore competition inspired discussions on transparency and ethical governance. The campaign concluded with a pledge ceremony and a walkathon by uniting DOGR staff, research fellows and workers in a powerful demonstration of collective responsibility. ICAR-DOGR’s date-wise execution of Special Campaign 5.0 reflects its commitment to sustainable cleanliness, institutional efficiency and community-oriented development. The institute's blend of campus, rural and administrative initiatives has set a strong example for agricultural research organizations across India. Dr. V. Mahajan, Director ICAR-DOGR, thanked committee members and all the staff members for active participation in Swachhata Hi Seva and Special Campaign 5.0 programs 2025.
