ICAR-DOGR Marks 98th ICAR Foundation Day with Campus Plantation Drive

Rajgurunagar, Pune, June 16, 2026:

The ICAR–Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research (ICAR-DOGR), Pune, celebrated the 98th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) by organizing a plantation drive across its campus, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable agricultural development. The 98th Foundation Day of ICAR was observed on 16 July 2026 across the ICAR system.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the scientists, technical officers, administrative staff, research scholars, and other employees of the institute. As part of the celebration, a large number of indigenous and environmentally beneficial tree saplings were planted at various locations within the ICAR-DOGR campus to promote ecological sustainability and enhance green cover.

Dr. S. S. Gadge, Principal Scientist, ICAR-DOGR, welcomed the gathering and shared the information about ICAR system, its structure and different activities. Dr. A. J. Gupta, Director In-charge, ICAR-DOGR highlighted the significance of ICAR's 98-year journey in advancing agricultural research, innovation, and technology dissemination for the benefit of farmers and the nation. He emphasized that tree plantation is not merely a ceremonial activity but a collective responsibility towards mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity, and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations. The plantation drive reflected the institute's commitment to the national vision of sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. Participants pledged to nurture the planted saplings and continue contributing towards creating a greener and healthier campus.

The 98th Foundation Day programme from ICAR HQ, New Delhi was live telecasted through video conferencing at ICAR-DOGR. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. A. Thangasamy, Principal Scientist, ICAR-DOGR, acknowledging the efforts of all participants in making the event meaningful and reinforcing the message that environmental conservation is an integral part of agricultural research and development.
